Contract Translation(s)

Requests for contract translations have increased significantly in recent years in line with the growth in international trade.

At Australian Multi Lingual Services, we take great care in assigning the most suitable translators to your project. This is particularly important for contract translations. Only professional translators specialising in legal translation are assigned to contract translations.

Contracts define rights and duties for certain individuals and/or corporations. It is essential to ensure precise correspondence of these rights and duties in the source contract and in the contract translation. When conducting contract translations, legal translators are aware that the legal system of the source text is structured in a way that suits a specific culture and that this is reflected in the legal language; similarly, the target text is to be read by someone who is familiar with another legal system and it’s language. It is therefore essential that the translator have knowledge of both legal systems. By their very nature, contracts are full of acronyms, abbreviations, jargon, specialised terminology, figures of expression and  bureaucratic language. Contract translations must be clearly understood by all parties, regardless of native languages and cultural biases and customs.

The complexity of contract translation is compounded by the fact that often a specific law exists in one legal system but does not exist in the other. Particularly in commercial law, many foreign business contracts contain laws and terminologies which have no Australian company law equivalents.  The translator therefore has to exercise a great deal of caution.

Below is a list of some of the types of contracts which we regularly translate:

  • Trade agreements
  • Quality assurance agreements
  • General rules of e-commerce

    • Contracts for sales of goods
    • Contracts for sale of business

  • Intellectual property asset acquisition and protection
  • software licensing
  • Corporate contracts
  • Outsourcing contracts
  • Lease contracts
  • Confidentiality agreements
  • License agreements
We treat your global business activities as private, confidential, and proprietary.
